The hotel clearly need major restauration and is somewhat dirty. Regardless, we had a great time and enjoyed every second spend in the facility. Lot of activities all day long, friendly and dedicated staff. High quality live music of all kind every day, lot of dancing and lot of fun. The main bar is amazing with a lot of choices and wonderful ambiance. Everything was just easy. Beach is beautiful and very clean, pools is also very nice. Food was good with a lot of choices and different menu every day. The only negative comment is that the main buffet is very dirty ( seats, wall, floor).
We spend an awesome week in December 2016 at Melia las Dunas. Was our 4th time in Cayo Santa Maria but first time at las Dunas. Everything was awesome, nothing to complain. Don't take in consideration few bad reviews. For us Cuba and Cayo Santa Maria is the best place to spend our vacation down south. You go there for the beach, turquoise water and for the awesome cuban people. We loved all 4 resorts but we decide to go back this month on June 30th. We are looking forward to go back for 7 days in heaven. Can't wait to meet all the people working at the resort. Too many names to mention but all are awesome. See you in 10 days Melia las Dunas.
We stayed at Melia Las Dunas for almost 2 weeks in May of 2017. This is our 2nd stay at this beautiful resort. We usually do not go to the same place twice, but we decided to make an exception, and we were happy we did. This resort is great for both families with kids and just adults. We went with 4- and 7-year old kids and we had a great time. Beach: this is what we go for. The beach is beautiful. Just sand – no rocks or corals. Perfect for little children. May seems to be an off-season so the resort wasn’t crowded, and we were normally able to get good spots in the shade without having to wake up at the break of dawn just to reserve a spot. Accommodations: the rooms are nice and clean. First time we stayed in block 27. This time in 34. Both are great and close to everything. Food: this year the food was even better than last year. Usually food in Cuba receives a lot of criticism. This is not the case at this hotel. I could always find various options for kids including fruits and vegetables. I was impressed with selection of seafood (salmon, shrimps, lobster dishes) every day. A la carte restaurants: Nothing fancy, but something to break the every-day routine. Oriental and Italian were good. Kids loved pizza place the most. Pools: good. Kids enjoyed staying in the pool and making friends with other children. Night programs: always something fun but we would mostly go to mini-disco so kids can have fun. They loved it. Gym: the gym is well equipped with two separate rooms – one for cardio and one for weights. In general, a good collection of basic equipment – treadmills, spin and exercise bikes, a stepper, a rowing machine, some free weights, and various exercise machines. And it was mostly empty – no surprise there :). One suggestion to the management is to have paper towels and cleaning spray bottles available in both rooms. I was also happy to see a lot of familiar faces among personnel from our first year, especially at the main restaurant. I would recommend Melia Las Dunas and I can't wait to go back again next year.
The Melia has the nicest beach of Las Dunas. Incredibly nice personal, big clean rooms. Of course the food was no good (but that's in every hotel in Cuba however the fruits could have been better). Nice pool, but please don't book a massage in their spa, it was terrible!
I just got back a few days ago from melia las dunas and the hotel is beautiful the drinks are amazing and the lobby is huge and where .ost of the fun happens at night. They have great cappuccinos and Infused water station going. In the evenings they have top shelf liquor stations with a mixologist avaible to prep your perffered cocktail. 95% of the staff is friendly and accomdating. I have to mention a few stand out staff Eline from the beach bar the most amazing hostesses I've had in a very long time at multiple resorts I've been to, she took the time to get each guest and learn their preferences. What really got me though was the first day we arrived and went to the beach bar as I patiently waited to be served another couple was reaming her out for something that had nothing to do with, the gentleman was complaining about Cuban people and how he had always been treated badly (honestly if true I could see why) but Elaine was so sweet and patient even though this guest es being so rude to her. She continued to try and assure him she would try her best to help him have a different experience all while maintaining her smile and courtesy. She then turned to me right with a huge smile and served me with so much poise and grace. She made sure to ask how I was, how my day was and always inquired about my group. Elaine thank you so much for making a stay that much more pleasurable with all your small details! I also have to mention maikel at the lobby bar, Guillermo at the beer garden, anyeli (I hope I got that right) at the beer garden she's in training but she amazing please keep her her name tag said estudiante. Also there was another bar staff at the lobby in the mornings but her name escapes me but she was amazing because I'm diabetic and can only use sweetener but forgot to bring my own this time and she made sure she gave me enough sweeteners to keep with me for my stay and always made sure I had diet soda when I arrived to the bar. All the gardeners were super friendly and greeted us in the mornings, gave us flowers made out of palms or crickets and other cool trinkets they would make out of palms and other foliage. Also they offered us and the kids fresh coconuts which I thought was super great! Awesome job to the entire grounds crew because the grounds were always very clean. Also alejandro from guest services. My house keeping team was awesome left me notes everyday and made very cute and funky things with the towels and curtains. Thank you Yeilin and danelis. Now to the food which is what most people are concerned about, I like to say the out of all the resorts I've been to Cuba this has been the best food by far! Fresh seafood on a daily basis at the buffet and daily on the grill at the beer garden for lunch. I went to 4 a la carte restaurants and the food was good there as well always enough variety and good portions. The buffet also offered a lot of variety and the quality and flavour for "cuba" standard was excellent! The entertainment was great they always had a team at the pool and another at the beach during the day Carlos was outstanding!!! The evening shows were really good as well especially the night beach party! But what I loved the most is that every night they had a special team dedicated to do the kids shows and entertainment they really are a family and kids friendly resort and cater to kids greatly! So by now you might be asking yourself why the average rating then, well this was the major issue we had, insects are a given when you travel down south so just bring bug spray but what we didn't expect were the pest! We encountered cockroaches at every a la carte restaurant, in my bathroom and mice running around even found a dead one In front of my bungalow entrance (which explained the multiple cats on site) this is something that the administration should really take into consideration because my rating was going to be 4.5 stars meaning almost perfect untill I encourented to multiple pest at numerous times. But all in all I'd be back! And would recommend it.
