Planning your Wales flights is easy as the country has just one international airport: Cardiff Airport. The airport is served by a host of scheduled air carriers that include Air Canada, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, United Airways as well as others. Departures to Cardiff Airport are available year-round from Canada, and most every day of the week. From May to September you may find flight prices to be a little higher than the rest of the year, as this is considered the main tourist season. Booking your Wales flights well in advance can help to keep them affordable. Flights to Wales are not direct, and will always route through another city, in some cases two other cities. The city you will be connecting in depends on the airline you are flying with. Typically though, you will have a connection in another European city such as Amsterdam.
Several regional air carriers including Helvetic Airways, Air Malta and Flybe also serve the Cardiff Airport and provide flights to many destinations within the United Kingdome and Europe. Flights with regional air carriers can be seasonal. If you are planning on visiting another destination from Cardiff, ask our travel experts about which regional air carrier will work best for your travel dates and itinerary.
Cardiff Airport, Maes Awyr Caerdydd in Welsh, is located approximately 16 kms from the city centre, close to Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan. The airport is well-connected to the city of Cardiff, with several regularly scheduled buses running between the two. Taxi hire is also available 24 hours a day, with Checkers Cars being the official taxi of the airport. Service is available outside of the arrivals hall. Car hire can be arranged (or pre-arranged with our travel experts) at the airport from the following companies: Avis, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National Alamo.
There is no direct link from the airport to the city centre, but it is conveniently located to Rhoose Cardiff International Airport Rail Station, which has a connection to Cardiff Central Rail Station. A complimentary shuttle bus is available at the airport for travellers who can present a valid train ticket.
Inside Cardiff Airport there are many restaurants and cafes available as well as currency exchange services and several shops including a duty-free boutique.
