Travellers from Canada will find that when looking for Netherlands flights they will have two main airport options: Amsterdam Airport Schipol in the capital city of Amsterdam, and Rotterdam The Hague Airport is in Rotterdam. While there are many other small airports within the Netherlands, Amsterdam and Rotterdam are where all of the International flights arrive and depart.
Amsterdam Airport Schipol is located approximately 20 minutes from the Amsterdam city centre. It is an important airport for the Netherlands, as well as the rest of Europe with well over 100 air carriers operating to/from here. For Canadians, the most affordable Netherlands flights are routinely offered onboard Charter Air Carriers including Sunwing, Air Canada Vacations and Air Transat. When travelling with a Charter Air Carrier there are a few important details to keep in mind:
- Charter Air Carriers do not operate year-round service, but rather seasonally during the peak tourist travel times – typically from late-May or June to September or October.
- Departures are not available every day of the week, so some flexibility may be required from your travel dates to secure a Charter flight.
- Service may not be available from every Canadian gateway, so a connecting flight may be required to take advantage of the Charter flights.
Additionally, the Amsterdam Airport Schipol is served by a multitude of Scheduled Air Carriers from Canada. These carriers provide a year-round service which departs daily, and in some cases many times a day. Beyond the countries National Air Carrier; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines; Air France, British Airways, Swiss International, Austrian Airlines and many more operate between Canada and the Netherlands.
The Netherlands' other main and equally important airport is Rotterdam The Hague Airport, located less than 10kms from the city of Rotterdam. Unfortunately the airport is not served by any Charter Air Carriers from Canada. However, there are a plethora of Scheduled Air Carriers that operate from Canada to Rotterdam and vice-versa. Air Canada, Swiss International and of course KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are amongst the many Scheduled Air Carriers providing this service.
No matter which airport you choose for your Netherlands flights, you’ll find numerous transfer options including rail, public bus, hotel shuttle, taxi hire and car hire. The vast majority of the time rail service will be the most convenient and affordable option to travel from airport to city.
