While there are three airports on the Island of Maui, the most affordable Maui flights depart and arrive from the Kahului Airport.
Kahului Airport is the most common airport for travellers arriving from Canada, the United States and other Hawaiian destinations, especially those arriving from the Honolulu International Airport on Oahu. The airport is located approximately 5kms from the town of Kahului, on the northern edge of the Island, near the Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary. Flights from Canada to Kahului Airport are available from scores of Scheduled Airlines as well as Canadian Charter Company WestJet. Service onboard WestJet from Toronto Pearson International Airport is only offered on a seasonal basis, from December to April. Year-round departures with WestJet are available from the Vancouver International Airport, Calgary International Airport and Winnipeg International Airport. Depending on which Canadian gateway you are travelling from, your Maui flights may have a connection through another Canadian city. For example if you are travelling from Toronto Pearson International Airport, you will stop at the Calgary International Airport before arriving at the Kahului Airport. When travelling onboard one of the many Scheduled Air Carriers such as Air Canada, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, US Airways, American Airlines and Alaskan Airlines, you may also have to connect before arriving in Maui. Similar to WestJet, this will depend entirely on which city you are travelling from. Differently though, when you travel with a Scheduled Air Carrier you will likely connect through a city in the United States, or in some cases the Honolulu International Airport. Once at the airport, transferring to the town of Kahului is easy with numerous options available to travellers. The Maui Public Bus has daily service that stops outside of the airport terminal, and departs every 90 minutes. A one-way ride onboard the Maui Bus costs $1USD, per person. While the public bus is a very affordable transportation option, most travellers go for a car rental while in Maui as this gives a little more freedom to roam and explore. Eight car rental companies are available on-site at the airport including: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Additionally, taxi cabs and shuttle services are also available.
The Islands other two airports are the Kapalua Airport in West Maui and Hana Airport in East Maui. While flights from Canada are available to both of these airports, the number of airlines serving them is limited. This can cause flight prices to be high.
