Morelia's Cathedral (officially named Cathedral of the Divine Savior of Morelia) ~ So majestic made of local  pink cantera (volcanic) stone, it took over one hundred years to build and was finished in 1744, a must to see. Combining Neo-Classical, Herreresque and Baroque architectural styles.  Overlooking the Plaza de Armasamnd it dominates the city skyline with the two  60-m (200-ft) high towers. Inside you will see a  beautiful organ with 4,600 pipes and the gold crown atop the statue  of the Señor de la Sacristía, which was a gift from Philip II of Spain.

Zoo ~ south of Morelia, Find over 3,800 specimens and 4330 species from around the world.  Habitat to the most important bird collection in Latin America.  Stretching over 60 acres, offering a walking circuit through the forest, a 7 care artificial lake where you can rent paddle boats.

Zitacuaro ~ The Monarch Butterfly Reserve (Sanctuario Mariposa Monarca): in the East of the state. Plan to visit the reserve  between November and March. In any given year there may be between 200 and 500 million butterflies spending the winter months here. Monarch’s are the symbol and pride of the people of Michoacan.

Uruapan  ~ Volcano Paricutin ~ One of the most famous sights in Michoacan., a volcano that literally came out of nowhere. It first started to appear in 1943 and rose 410m in one year. It grew for approximately nine years but has been dormant since 1952. It covered two villages with slow moving lava, there were no casualties but the top of a church can be seen peeking out of the solidified lava. The volcano can be climbed, it stands at 2800 meters.

South of Uruapan ~ Cascada de Tzararacua ~ a 30 metre waterfall. Climb down the 557 steps for a close look or hire a horse to take you down, and back up again!

Tingambato ~ ceremonial ruins dating from AD 450.  You will find a ball court, a pyramid and a tomb. The museum at this site has photos and small discoveries. Located not far from Uruapan.
