| Demand Real Pricing |
|
itravel2000 collects over 22,000 names from across Canada demanding real pricing in airline advertising
(TORONTO, ONTARIO) September 29, 2008 – itravel2000 President Jonathan Carroll released a petition on Friday, August 8, 2008 asking people from across Canada to help lobby for airlines to advertise all-in pricing so consumers know the total price of a return flight. On September 25, the petition was tallied with 22,364 names from people across the country. The petition was sent to the Minister of Transport, the Honourable Mr. Cannon and the Chair of the Standing Committee on Transportation, the Honourable Mr. Tweed.
Airlines advertise prices that are a fraction of the final price a customer pays. This practice frustrates consumers and tarnishes the travel industry. “With your support”, says Carroll, “I will lobby to eliminate this misleading advertising and help make travel planning the pleasurable activity it should be. It's no wonder travellers are vexed when they call us to book these fares and learn what the real all-in price is” The petition states that airlines routinely advertise one-way fares and that these fares do not include taxes and fuel surcharges. In the past weeks, the two major Canadian airlines took the positive action of eliminating fuel surcharges. We feel that there should be full transparency within airline advertising. This means providing the all-in prices in their advertising.
