Anyone can fly direct to Athens but why fly over Europe when you can take your time and explore the cities below at leisure? That's exactly what the Road to Athens tour offers. Paris, Venice, Florence and Rome with a little bit of Switzerland and Germany thrown in for good measure. Relax on the Isle of Corfu in Greece before reaching your final destination and the birthplace of democracy, Athens. Seems like a long way to go to end here, why not take a cruise through the Greek Isles while you're in the neighbourhood?

Itinerary

Depart for Europe Day 1
Jet off to the trip of a lifetime awaiting you in Europe!

Arrive London Day 2
Check-in to your hotel after 2pm and the remainder of the day is free to relax before meeting your fellow travellers at 6pm. After dinner take a short walk to explore nearby Covent Garden.

London to Paris Day 3
A warm welcome from your Contiki Crew as we head for the White Cliffs of Dover and the Channel crossing to France. We drive past World War I battlefields to the splendour of Paris. What better way to begin than with an evening tour of the "City of Lights" and a first glimpse of the Eiffel Tower? (D)

Paris Day 4
Today take the opportunity to visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe or the Champs Elysées. Tonight, why not complete your Parisian experience with a French meal and a famous Parisian cabaret? (B)

Paris to Lucerne Day 5
Our path takes us toward the towering Alps and the vast serene lakes of Switzerland. Be charmed by medieval Lucerne with its Chapel Bridge and plentiful shopping opportunities. Maybe a cruise on Lake Lucerne to enhance your ultimate Swiss encounter? (B,D)

Lucerne to Munich Day 6
We stop for lunch in the tiny Principality of Liechtenstein before crossing into Germany and Bavaria's lively capital Munich, home to the Oktoberfest. View sights such as the animated Glockenspiel, stroll through the shopping streets and maybe take the opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a local beerhall. (B)

Munich to Venice Day 7
Today we travel south through Austria and the astonishing beauty of the Brenner Pass to cross the border into Italy. Tonight we stay on the mainland of Venice. (B,D)

Venice Day 8
A short boat ride takes us into the historical centre of Venice to see St Mark's Square, the Bridge of Sighs and the Doges' Palace. Ample time to wander the bustling streets, see the skill required to create local crafts such as Venetian glass and fine lace and visit one of the many amazing museums. Why not treat yourself to a gondola ride and evening meal with your fellow travellers as a perfect end to your Venetian experience? (B)

Venice to Florence Day 9
We wind through the Apennine Mountains towards the gorgeous region of Tuscany. We visit Pisa to see the world-famous Leaning Tower and Baptistry. This evening enjoy the chance to stroll through the streets of this most spectacular of Renaissance cities, Florence. (B,D)

Florence Day 10
The day includes a walking tour of the Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo and Santa Croce, and a chance to shop for leather, gold and silver. In your free time maybe visit one of the city's many museums or galleries and this evening enjoy the colourful Florentine nightlife.

Florence to Rome Day 11
All roads lead to Rome where our included sightseeing tour is the perfect introduction to the Eternal City. Do as the Romans do and stroll past the Trevi Fountain, the amazing Pantheon and Piazza Navona. Take the time to discover Roman cuisine in a trattoria for a delicious meal with some local wine. Rome Day 12
Ancient and modern Rome await your discovery. Why not take a guided tour of the Imperial Forum and walk in the footsteps of Gladiators? In your free time explore the Vatican City and Sistine Chapel, snap up Italian fashions or just watch the world go by with a gelato (or two). (B,D)

Rome to Corfu Day 13
A chance to take a guided tour of the ancient city of Pompeii as we travel across Italy to board our overnight ferry to Greece. (B)

Corfu Day 14, Day 15
Two full days on this fabulous Greek island. Work on your tan, take to the water with a chance to enjoy some watersports or get off the beaten track in an open-top jeep. At night an opportunity to visit a local taverna, try some Greek specialities and dance to the sound of the Zorba! (B,D)(B)

Corfu to Athens Day 16
We travel through the Peloponnese taking a moment to view the Corinth Canal before we arrive in Athens. Tonight explore the bustling Plaka area and why not join us for a farewell meal? (B)

Depart Athens Day 17
This morning our city tour includes the first modern Olympic stadium, the Acropolis, the Parthenon and concludes near the Plaka in the city centre. Whether it's further travels or homeward-bound say 'Yasas' to your fellow travellers as this is where your tour ends. (B)
