Panama City is situated on the panhandle in the northwestern position of the state of Florida and is the largest city between Tallahassee and Pensacola. Panama City is known for “The World’s Most Beautiful Beaches.”
Step back in time to the days when pirates ruled the sea. A must see is the replica of the Golden Hind Treasure Ship located exactly where it washed up on the shore of the Grande Lagoon in the 16th century. Choose to eat in one of its three restaurants on the ship. There are open-air restaurants where the whole family can eat exactly where the pirates used to eat in the ships’ main dining hall. The family will love this adventurous dining experience. There is a treasure shop to purchase some fun gifts that will keep the memories lasting year after year.
Take advantage of the fresh seafood offered at several fine restaurants or opt for a more economical plate which will still offer succulent seafood at an affordable rate being so close to the sea.
The beach bums of Panama City are always looking for like-minded people to be on the receiving end of the bump, set and spike in volleyball, a favourite beach pastime. You will have no trouble joining in a game or two with the outgoing, fun loving people of Panama City. Charter boats line the marinas ready to take you out on the water to relax and experience the city’s beauty from the water’s perspective. If a fishing adventure is more your idea of excitement there are deep sea fishing charters that set out at all times. A charter boat is available to suit whatever you like, whether it is diving, deep sea fishing or dolphin tours.
Even if you are just visiting Panama City for a short period, with eight nearby golf courses to choose from there is surely enough time to squeeze in a quick 9 holes. For the nature lovers there are several state parks which offer beautiful, scenic trails to wander and explore. There are also numerous water parks that will peak your interest.
For world-class shopping, wander through the shops of Pier Park, boasting 900,000 square feet of pure shopping bliss! You may want to start at the shoe store to find comfortable shoes before you begin your trek.
“Wine not” take a tour of the SeaBreeze winery? After the tour, sample some of the vintner’s creations processed and bottled at this facility. The actual vineyard is located some 35 kilometers north of the winery and the grapes are harvested and transported in.
Florida has a humid, subtropical climate. It is mostly hot and dry from October to May and the rainy season lasts from June through to September when heavy rainfalls can occur. Snow is not common but there have been occasional snow falls in the past.
If you plan to travel during March break when the climate is a comfortable 24˚ to 27˚celsius for northerners, keep in mind this is also a popular spring break destination which makes for a very busy area.
