Myrtle Beach is one of the United States’ fastest growing tourist destinations and for good reason. Here the focus is on creating an attractive family vacation destination that will appeal to all ages. Myrtle Beach has gone to great lengths to ensure a family friendly environment with the development of amusement parks, activities and dining establishments and the implementation of laws banning thongs and topless bathing on the beaches. The popularity of Myrtle Beach is not only increasing with Canadians and Americans but also with visitors from Northern Europe. One of Myrtle Beach’s most attractive features with travellers is price. A vacation to Myrtle Beach is more affordable than some of the other major family holiday destinations such as Orlando. Food, drink, attractions and accommodations are all quite affordable here.
It can be difficult deciding how to fill your vacation itinerary. In Myrtle Beach your options are almost endless. For family fun, there is no better place to be. The best place to start is the beaches with miles of brown sugar sand perfect for sandcastle building. The most popular beach area is between Ocean Blvd. and Ninth Ave. N. around the amusement park but you can also find nice secluded areas just a few miles north of there. Another great spot for a beach day is Myrtle Beach State Park. The park does charge a small admission fee but they have restrooms, picnic areas and pavilions, a nice sandy beach, outdoor swimming pool and a network of beautiful nature trails. If you are looking for a little more action and entertainment, Myrtle Beach has that too. Hard Rock Park is full of thrilling rides and attractions that will excite kids of all ages with names that parents will appreciate like Pinball Wizard, Led Zepplin and Slippery When Wet. Myrtle Beach Water Waves Park is the largest water park in the state with over 20 acres of rides, slides, attractions and fun. NASCAR Speed Park is the ultimate place for your young thrill seekers with seven racetracks, climbing walls, speed bumper boats, kids rides and more. MagiQuest, Ripleys Aquarium and the Children’s Museum of South Carolina are also great places to spend an afternoon together.
As a world-renowned golf destination, Myrtle Beach has plenty of fun for adults too. There are more than 120 championship golf courses in and around Myrtle Beach, many of which were designed by some of the game’s most respected names including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio and Arnold Palmer. Legends, Beachwood and Grand Dunes Golf Club are all definitely worth a visit. No vacation would be complete without coming home with the perfect souvenir even if that souvenir is a pair of designer shoes. There are so many great places to shop in the area. Along the main beach area or ‘Grand Strand’ as it’s called, you will find Broadway on the Beach, a 350 acre shopping and entertainment complex. For a great bargain, check out one of two Tanger Outlet locations with brand names like Nautica, Nike and Jones New York. The area is also home to some great flea markets like Hudson’s Flea Market which has over 450 vendors. Plan your next getaway to Myrtle Beach and see why it is one of America’s favourite vacation playgrounds.
Myrtle Beach enjoys a mild, comfortable climate year round. The summer months are warm and pleasant with average temperatures between 24˚C and 29˚C and are rarely uncomfortable because of the cool breeze that blows in off the Atlantic. The winter months are mild as well and still ideal for golf with temperatures ranging between 12˚C and 15˚C. Myrtle Beach is a year round vacation destination.
