With more than a dozen pristine beaches, Puerto Vallarta is the perfect place to lay down your towel and bask in the sun or cool off with a dip in crystal clear water. Whether you are looking for relaxation, water sports or entertainment, there is a beach for you. Playa de Los Muertos is the busiest beach in the area which is slightly ironic because Los Muertos translates to ‘The Dead.’ This beach is always full of activities, wandering mariachi bands and other performers, vendors selling silver and other crafts and is surrounded by hotels, restaurants and bars; never a dull moment here. If you are looking for something a little less crowded, Playa Mismaloya is in a small cove bordered by lush jungle and is perfect for relaxing and swimming. The movie ‘The Night of the Iguana’ was shot here in 1963 and is responsible for showcasing Puerto Vallarta as a travel destination. There are so many beaches in the area, each one unique in its own way, that you should try to visit more than just one. You will be glad you did.
Puerto Vallarta is not just about the beaches. There are many other sides to this growing vacation destination. Puerto Vallarta has become somewhat of an art mecca. Artists from Mexico and around the globe come to be inspired by the beauty and the old world ambiance as well as display their works in the many galleries and shops. El Centro’s cobblestone streets and the Malecon, an oceanfront promenade, are lined with exquisite sculptures, museums and art galleries. Galleria Uno in El Centro (downtown) has the most extensive art collection from contemporary Mexican artists. It is definitely worth a visit. Maybe you are looking for something a little more exhilarating. With an endless list of possibilities you can do almost anything you want. Take in a bullfight at Toros Plaza, get a unique bird’s eye view of Puerto Vallarta’s lush jungle with a canopy tour, charter a boat in the Bay of Banderas for some world class sports fishing or eat, sing and dance at an authentic Mexican fiesta. There are so many ways to discover Puerto Vallarta’s culture, nature and history.
What better way to end a great day in the sun than with a fantastic meal, a cold drink and a little mood music? Whatever you are craving from Italian to seafood, you will find a restaurant that caters to you. For some of the best Mexican in the city head to El Arrayan, they serve up the most authentic delicious flavours of Mexico. The restaurants and bars along the Malecon are perfect for an after dinner drink and to watch the sun set into the ocean. There are plenty of clubs and bars in the area to indulge in some nightly entertainment as well. A newer edition to the entertainment scene is the Nikki Beach Club which originated in Miami and becomes a very chic party spot at night. For a true Mexican experience try a place like The Iguana which is a favorite among locals and tourists. No matter what you are looking for in a holiday your dream vacation is waiting in Puerto Vallarta.
