Toulouse is located on France’s southwest side on the edge of the River Garonne. After Paris, Lyon and Marseille, Toulouse is the fourth largest city in France. As you walk through the city streets, you will notice the walls covered with welcomed works of graffiti and wall paintings. These works have been created by local artist Miss. Van., born right in Toulouse. This local artist’s street work is just one of countless examples of the city’s rich culture. Toulouse is often referred to as “Ville Rose” which translates to Pink City. The name comes from the colour of brick used in architecture throughout the city that is reminiscent of Roman architectural style.
To promote the city’s historic and cultural past, Toulouse has put great effort into restoring and refurbishing the city’s monuments, concert halls, theatres, museums and parks. These projects have made Toulouse a wonderful place to visit and explore while learning about the city. Whatever your heart desires or wherever your interests may lie, there are an abundance of stimulating sights just waiting for you.
In the Hotel du Grand Balcon you will find the talented works of native Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, who is more famously known for his book “Le Petit Prince.”
There are numerous beautiful places to wander and explore throughout the city. Whether you are the type that likes to stroll through the park or the botanical gardens, walk down the old streets and shop the little boutiques, or simply relax at one of the several cafés as you watch the people of the city go about their daily routines. There is no shortage of musical events or entertainment in Toulouse with many music theatres, concert halls and cafés to enjoy an evening out.
The French take much pride in all they do. And fine food is no exception which means Toulouse is a delicious place to dine. During your stay here you must taste their specialty cuisine called Saucisses de Toulouse, a type of sausage with herbs. Do take the time to make the trip to the vicinity of Midi-Pyrénées. Here, you can have the pleasure of experiencing the famous delicacy, foie gras, which is duck or goose liver, always prepared to perfection. So sit back, relax and enjoy a glass of wine suggested by the connoisseur that pairs well with the meal. France is famously known for its abundant winemaking which often means that wine is cheaper than purchasing a bottle of water!
