There are over 50 countries and sovereign states within the boundaries of Europe. No two are alike which makes deciding where to go especially difficult. Guided bus tours are one of the best ways to explore a number of countries in a short period of time. It can be very intimidating trying to learn new road rules like what side to drive on as well as trying to get directions. A guided bus tour of Europe lets you relax and take in the sights and sounds of this enchanting continent. Another popular way to explore numerous European destinations in one trip is by cruise ship. This is becoming especially popular in Mediterranean Europe. The downfall of both of these is that you may not get to stay long enough in the places you love best. But you can always return on your next vacation.
Because there are so many countries, the continent can be divided into loosely defined regions in order to make it a little easier on travelers. Mediterranean Europe or Southern Europe is one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world. In recent years, cruises to this area have increased dramatically and become very fashionable. Mediterranean Europe consists of countries such as Greece, Italy, Spain, Macedonia, Monaco and Portugal. Throughout the region you will find cosmopolitan cities and quaint villages, vivid cultural displays, ancient ruins, historical tributes, fantastic cuisine and more. So where do you start? History buffs will be amazed at the sight of the majestic Acropolis and Parthenon in Greece. It is a must see but try to get there in the morning when there are fewer crowds. In Italy, art lovers will be in awe of the exquisite museums such as The Museum of Modern Art which houses works by Matisse and Rodin. For those who thrive on night life and bustling beaches, the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands in Spain are home to some of the best beaches and hedonistic nightlife in the world. You absolutely can’t go wrong with a vacation to Southern Europe.
Western Europe includes countries such as the Netherlands, Ireland, the United Kingdom and France. The United Kingdom includes England, Scotland and Wales, all steeped in history and rich tradition. London, England is also one of the fashion capitals of the world where avid shoppers will fall in love with Notting Hill and Bond Street. While in Scotland, enjoy a pint in a local pub and let the locals share traditional stories and legends with you. Don’t leave Scotland without hearing the soulful tune of the traditional bagpipes. Who hasn’t dreamt of visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It is the most romantic city in the world. And what would any vacation to Europe be without a visit to the infamous ‘red light district’ in Amsterdam, home to the world-renowned Moulin Rouge. Of course we cannot forget the rest of Europe. Northern Europe includes countries such as Finland, Norway, Iceland, Sweden and Denmark which all enjoy intriguing history full of Viking legend. They are also great places for year round outdoor adventure. Don’t leave Finland without experiencing one of their famous saunas. Eastern Europe includes Switzerland, Russia, Poland and Germany. This area is famous for its castles and fortresses and of course the Alps. For a truly memorable challenge, ski the Swiss Alps in Switzerland. In Germany, enjoy all the traditional delights from bratwurst to polka music and top it all off with a stein of Germany’s finest golden ale. No matter where you go, a vacation to Europe is like stepping into another world. So put the stress of everyday life behind you and enjoy the splendor that is Europe.
Southern Europe generally enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool to mild winters. The nights can get cold though. The rest of Europe generally enjoys a temperate climate similar to Canada, with long cold winters and short, mild to hot summers.
