Disneyland, “the happiest place on earth,” is California’s top tourist destination and one of the most famous theme parks in the world. Since 1955, when Walt Disney first opened the gates, over 515 million visitors have embarked on the wondrous journey that is Disneyland; wild rides, spectacular shows and parades, family fun, new worlds, fantastic food, shopping and of course all your favourite characters like Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Ariel and Goofy. Although the park has changed a great deal since it first opened over 50 years ago, we think Walt Disney would be proud of what is has become.

Disneyland Resort is located in Anaheim, California where the beautiful year round climate makes anytime a perfect time to visit. The Disneyland Resort has grown considerably since it first opened its doors to the public July 18th, 1955. The resort now consists of two parks; Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure, as well as a dynamic shopping, dining and entertainment district called Downtown Disney. Disneyland Park was the original theme park and received close to 15 million visitors last year. Disney’s California Adventure was officially opened in February 2001. Although it opened to less than stellar reviews, the Disney Corporation has addressed the issues and continues to improve with plans for new attractions and upgrades throughout. Last year Disney’s California Adventure saw almost 6 million visitors.
Disneyland Park – “To all who come to this happy place…welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savour the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideas, dreams and the hard facts that have created America, with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” – Walt Disney
Disneyland Park is a place of wonderment, adventure and the perfect blend of fantasy and reality. The park is divided into eight themed ‘lands’; Main St. USA, Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country and Mickey’s Toontown. The Disneyland Park rides are fun for the whole family and also include well themed ‘dark rides’ like Pirates of the Caribbean and the odd big thrill ride like Space Mountain thrown into the mix. Main St. USA is the first land you will enter and is modeled after a 20th century Midwest town. Adventureland is designed to resemble a tropical escape based on the deep jungles of Africa and Asia. The Indiana Jones Adventure, Tarzan’s Treehouse and the Jungle Cruise are the big attractions in this land. Frontierland is meant to recreate the pioneer days of the western frontier. The Mark Twain Riverboat and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad are among this land’s most popular attractions. Fantasyland is where the dreams of your childhood become reality. Tomorrowland is dedicated to the future and innovation. Space Mountain, Finding Nemo Submarine Adventures and Star Tours are a few of the big adventures here. New Orleans Square is based on 19th century New Orleans. And you absolutely have to visit the Haunted Mansion. Critter Country and Mickey’s Toontown are sure to delight the youngest members of your group.
Disney’s California Adventure – Disney’s California Adventure is the newest addition to the Disneyland Resort. This park is directed more to a teen to adult audience with over 34 attractions including many big thrill rides and a few family friendly ones too. The park is divided into five themed areas and all except one is based on California’s history and culture; Sunshine Plaza, Golden State, Paradise Pier, Hollywood Pictures Back Lot and A Bugs Land. Golden State includes areas depicting California’s most famous landscapes such as the Mojave Desert, the rugged wilderness of Yosemite and Redwood National Parks, San Francisco, Napa Valley Wine Country and the Pacific wharfs. While visiting Golden State and Paradise Pier you have to try some of the best thrill rides like Soarin’ over California, Grizzly River Run, California Screamin’ and Maliboomer. It is best to have lunch after these rides. The Hollywood Pictures Back Lot allows visitors a chance to go inside the creation of Disney’s famous movies with interactive programs, shows and rides. One day at the Disneyland Resort just simply isn’t enough; it will continue to draw you back again and again.
Disneyland Resort is open 365 days a year and with a beautiful climate similar to the Mediterranean so there is no bad time to visit. Anaheim, California, where Disneyland is located, enjoys a year round average temperature of 21˚C. During the summer months temperatures can soar to highs of 29˚C to 33˚C. Winter temperatures remain comfortable but cooler with lows from 12˚C to 16˚C. Year round the evenings can get cool so make sure you are prepared.
