Anaheim, California is located in the infamous OC or Orange County for those of you not familiar with the television show. The whole county offers a spectacular array of activities, sights, sounds and adventure but Anaheim is the pièce de résistance when it comes to tourism. It really is hard to decide what to do first. Our suggestion would be to start with the amusement parks that first made this area famous. If it weren’t for Walt Disney and his creation of Disneyland, who knows what Anaheim would be now. Disneyland Resort is by far the most famous of the parks. The resort consists of two parks, Disneyland Park and Disney’s California Adventure. Disneyland Park has all your favourite attractions and rides, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Space Mountain, and is great for kids of all ages. Disney’s California Adventure is the newest addition to the Disneyland Resort and is based on California’s history, landmarks and landscapes. This park generally appeals to a slightly older crowd from teens to adults. Most of the 34 attractions at Disney’s California Adventure are big thrill rides. You absolutely have to try California Screamin’, one of the fastest roller coasters in the US. Another famous amusement park in the Anaheim area is Knott’s Berry Farm. Don’t worry, it’s not a berry farm anymore, just one of California’s major tourist attractions with over 40 great rides for all kinds of family fun.
After days of amusement parks, you could be ready for something a little different. If you bring the kids, you will definitely want to check out the Discovery Science Centre. You can lie on a bed of nails or experience an earthquake. There are over 100 interactive displays that kids of all ages will love. For our adrenaline junkies, make sure you visit Flightdeck Air Combat Centre. Cockpit simulators let you experience what it is like to fly a fighter jet complete with take offs, landings, aerial maneuvers and combat; so cool. Anaheim is also home to a few professional sports teams. So depending on what season you visit, you could check out the Anaheim Angels MLB team at Angel Stadium or the Anaheim Mighty Ducks NHL team at Arrowhead Pond. Want to explore the outdoors a little or visit the beach? Orange County is home to a number of beautiful beaches and is perhaps most famous for being the home of Surf City, USA, a.k.a. Huntington Beach. You should go watch the pros in action. OC Wildlife and Beach Tours offer visitors a chance to explore a number of beaches and also have tours specializing in wine tasting, art and shopping. Hot air balloon rides, sport fishing, snorkelling, kayaking and hiking are all popular pastimes here as well.
Who could come all the way to California and not tee off at one of the fabulous golf courses. The Anaheim area is home to over 40 beautiful courses that will challenge golfers of all skill levels. Anaheim Hill Golf Course is a pretty course that is also reasonably priced. One of the best courses around is Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point. Although it is quite expensive, this par 70 course, with its spectacular ocean views and links style layout, is more than worth it. This place is a shopping oasis too. For brand name and designer labels, visit Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum Centre and South Coast Plaza. Anaheim Gardenwalk, Downtown Disney and the Block at Orange are all centres for great shopping, entertainment and dining. You could spend your whole vacation discovering these places. Come and explore all that Anaheim has to offer.
With a beautiful climate similar to the Mediterranean, there is no bad time to visit here. Anaheim enjoys a year round average temperature of 21˚C. During the summer months temperatures can reach highs of 29˚C to 33˚C. During the winter temperatures remain comfortable but cooler with lows from 12˚C to 16˚C. Year round, the evenings can get cool, so make sure you are prepared.
